An excellent series of photos of rare beauty, imaginatively presented with short text fragments, and what is most extraordinary to me about this post: the photos could all stand on their own, but form a whole that's so much bigger than the parts. Outstanding work, Todd!

Thank you very much, Vincent! Putting the images and words together into this little “project” was very satisfying. Lately, I’ve been giving more thought to projects with multiple images, instead of focusing individual photographs.

Vincent Wagenaar's avatar

Well, if that yields results like this one, I can’t wait to see the next project! I try to do both forms, as long as it feels natural to choose one or the other. Sometimes themes or subjects demand a certain approach, but that’s probably just a personal notion.

Todd Haughton's avatar

I agree, and most of the time when I’m photographing I don’t have a specific project in mind. Thanks again!

I love it :) great work

Thank you, Rafa!

I could not love this more, Todd! The images paired with your words are simply wonderful.

Thank you, Jennifer! It was a fun little project, and I’m happy with how it came out. I just finished making a handmade zine from this post and I’ll share more about that in another couple weeks.

From the first time I experienced snow, I have thought it is the most beautiful of silences. Paradoxically, in the silence of these photos we can hear your voice. Thanks for sharing!!

Todd Haughton's avatar

Thank you for your comment, James! I’m glad my images spoke to you in this way. 🙏

Thank you for a few very calming moments and beautiful images and just enough carefully chosen words.

Thank you, Clark! I’m glad you find it calming 🙏

I have looked at this twice now, because the photos are just so good. I love how snow transforms a landscape and quiets down everything. The second to last is my favorite. A Minor White images that I love comes to mind, when I look at this image. Thank you for sharing, Todd! I can imagine you buddy had the best time ever in the snow!

Yes, there is nothing quite like the peaceful feeing of walking through freshly fallen snow among the trees. Although it’s cliche, I always think to myself it’s a “winter wonderland” whenever I get a chance to experience it. There seems to be something universal about dogs loving snow - it seems to bring out the “puppy” in dogs even as they get older.

I’m glad you mentioned the second to the last image - it’s an old structure a 10 minute walk from my house and I’ve always enjoyed how its rustic nature changes in the different season.

I always thought there is universal love of snow buried inside every dog, but Fibi is the first who is not sharing that mutual feeling. 🤷🏼‍♀️

That just makes her more special 😀

What a lovely piece you've put together here, Todd! I would love seeing more of this at some point (no pressure!) You craft it well from the pairings to the prose. Just so nice. Let me not forget to say how cute your dog is!! Love the snowy images- all of them.

Todd Haughton's avatar

Thank you, Juliette! I enjoyed the entire experience of putting this piece together - from writing the essay, selecting the images, and deciding on the layout. I will probably do more of this type of thing in the future - it takes a bit ore time, but I think the results are worth it. Your comment about my dog made me smile. He’s an important part of my morning routine, so he deserves to be part of the story.

The snow around his mouth was priceless! And yes, I think the results are worth it. I really enjoyed it!

Todd Haughton's avatar

For reasons I’ll never understand, he loves to plunge his face into the powder of the snow 😂

How cute!!!! 🥰

Thank you, Benjamin - it was good to have you join me on this snowy walk 🙏

I just love all the close-ups of things coming through the snow and the simplicity of how snow touches these things!

Todd Haughton's avatar

Thank you, Laurie! The snow transforms the landscape in remarkable ways, and is such a joy to witness it when the opportunity arrises.

This is wonderful Todd - such beautiful images paired with your words. That second image shows the sheer magnificence of the landscape around you. I really like your presentation here too - it's very simple and with those words alongside this would make a great little zine.

Beautiful work...although the thought of running through snow in the temperatures that the US have had recently doesn't fill me with longing, yet it must feel amazing to be running in the silence of snow in such an amazing place!😊

Todd Haughton's avatar

Thank you, Lin! The second image is from Colorado, where the mountains never cease to amaze me. I try to visit one or two times each year. I'm really glad you like the presentation of this post, and you're the second person to suggest that I should make a zine, so now I feel even more motivated to do so. 🙏

The extreme weather that much of the US has had recently is mostly staying away from Northern Arizona. So unfortunately, we've had very little snow and mild temperatures most of the winter. In fact, the last storm we had was the one I wrote about in this post from a few weeks ago. The trees in the forest desperately need a lot more snow before spring comes in April🤞

Lin Gregory's avatar

Even just making a handmade zine for yourself would work - it's a bit like a photographic journal entry documenting your run and if you do this with more visits to other areas you build up a collection of 'journal entries' in small zines over the months or even years. Of course that's me moodling ideas out loud, but there's lot's of potential 😊

Todd Haughton's avatar

I love that idea. I’ll have to think about it how I might produce a zine like that so it’s easy enough that I stay motivated to produce them more often.

Lin Gregory's avatar

Yes that's the key...I get ideas but then it's having the time to carry them through. I'll look forward to seeing how you get on.😊

Wonderful images… – so many taken close to the ground: presenting us with a dog’s eye view! – and presented so beautifully. Thank you!

Todd Haughton's avatar

Thank you for your comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the series, and appreciate seeing things from a “dog’s eye view”! 🙏

Just wonderful, Todd!

Thanks for taking us a long.

The second image is so stunning.

Todd Haughton's avatar

Thank you very much, Manuela! I’m glad you enjoyed the journey. The second image is from Colorado - it was amazing to watch the clouds and light changing rapidly in the mountains.
